The Things That Happen When Daddy is Gone...

Eric left for Guatemala last Sunday (2/2) and, Lord willing, should return next Sunday (2/9).  Yesterday (2/4) morning, Sofia (our 4 yr old) started going up the stairs and
slipped and fell.  She knocked out two of her baby teeth and has one which was pretty moved from its place.

As soon as we could get ice on her little mouth, I called the pediatrician we met here in town and he directed us to a pediatric dentist who immediately offered to see us in her office.  We all loaded up in the van and prayed that God would give us a good parking place close to her office downtown.  The Lord is GOOD.  We DID find a good parking place.

The dentist, after looking in Sofia's mouth, said that the best to do was to keep ice on it, to take ibuprofen for the pain and swelling and to be on a clear liquid diet for 2 days.  She gave me her cell number and asked us to call if we need anything.  She asked that we call her Thursday to check in and give her an update.  Next week, we will get her back in for x-rays.

All in all, Sofia is doing much better today.  The swelling is coming down.  She is talking a little more and eating with a syringe (since she can't even drink through a straw).

Through it all, God has been so good to us:

1) He protected our little Sofia from something worse
2) He provided us a great pediatrician and good pediatric dentist
3) He provided a quick and easy parking place and allowed us to get in to see the dentist quickly
4) Lots of people praying for us
5) He provided ways to get the word to Eric in Guatemala
6) Wonderful teammates, "Uncle Grady and Aunt Claire Milstead"(as my kids call them now...which allows me to keep calling them this as well!) who are willing and ready to drive 9 hours to get here and help us out if we need them.
7) Amazing children who are willing to help their little sister recover and feel well.  Between helping with things around the house (as they normally do), they also have volunteered to help serve Sofia and step in at other times when they've seen ways in which they can serve.  I am very grateful for each of them!  In the waiting room at the dentist's office, Elias happily read books to Lucia while Olivia kept Emilia happy.  None of them made a peep!  And when it was all over, we went to a local little store where Olivia and Elias ran in to get a few things that Sofia could eat (ehhem, and a few things THEY could enjoy as well!).  "Thank you God for each of our little ones!"

We're also thankful for the visit of one of the local pastors and his wife and grandchildren yesterday.  They offered to help us however they can.

So, what can we complain about?  Nothing!

Oh, and I almost forgot!  Our washing machine stopped working this week...no, NOT a good time for that!  So, we called in a repairman who came within 20 minutes.  He told me:  "Señora, I was just about to go on a trip today, I was getting things ready because we're leaving in a few hours. I'm rarely by the landline that you called.  It was perfect timing.  When you told me about your little girl, I decided to come and help you out."

So many things to be thankful for...so many big and little things that, when we focus on them and say "thank you" to our Lord for them, He helps us through it all.  "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."  Phil. 4:6-7

One last thing...to all of you who have prayed for us, THANK YOU!!!

Kristi
